‘Parallel House’ is an architectural volume organized as a sequence of partially covered or completely roofed rooms, overlooking the sea. The volumes of the rooms create images of cinematic aesthetic in the visual context of the Aegean sea and the neighbouring islands.
The project is developed on a ground characterized by steep slopes. The back of the residence is immersed in the landscape, while the facade is completely open to the view. All auxiliary functions are placed along the back wall. The movement and view in the interior and to the exterior of the residence are unhindered.
Bare concrete is used as a structural and visual framework. It works as a modern metaphor for the traditional stone house. The ELVIAL S46 SI2 is the solution used in the ample openings covering the need for a sturdy and energy efficient architectural aluminium profile. ‘Parallel House’ is a minimal but powerful antithesis to the natural surroundings. This antithesis and the discreet embodiment of values aim to create the best possible experience of the landscape.
